Cambodia – Part 4

We awoke the next morning full of energy; there were heaps to do over the next couple of days especially on the library. We were starting to lay the foundation. This was very exciting watching the building grow.

The teams would swap places during the day. Swapping between building the library and scuba diving. I was at the library during the day due to my nose issue. However this did not bother me, as I loved working on the library.

We made our way up to the library and started to work straight away. We had a couple of busy days ahead of us. The foundation needed to be finished and then we would be able to start working on the wall. We started building the outer wall of the foundation and filling it with sand that we got at the local quarry. The team was like a well oiled machine. We would be filling the bags with sand and wheeling and carrying them over to the library and emptying them and then going back to collect more sand. It was hard work but everyone put in 110% every day.

After we filled the foundation with sand it was time to add the rocks for support and flatten it down. We then worked hard to get the cement down before the weekend. We mixed the cement by hand which was hard work but after the 3rd batch we became experts!. We carried the cement over to the library in buckets and then it was neatly laid out we worked close to sun down to get it finished. but once it was done we were so happy. We made our way back to the ocean for a swim that evening and card games back at the inn.

The following morning we started to build the walls up. Half of us would be bricklaying and the other half would be making the cement swapping over throughout the day. It was fun making the cement, a couple of the school children would come over and start dancing and I have to admit they were better dances than me!

The walls started to come up it was starting to look amazing. The weekend had approached us and we where looking forward to exploring more of the island over the weekend.
